ANSWER:

If you had the 300gms with you for a full lunar year, it is obligatory that you pay zakah on it by selling some of it.

You can gift it to your children anytime, and they have full possession over it, which means that they are free to use it or sell it as they please, as you don’t want to fool Allah by claiming that you have given it to them while you are actually possessing it and using it wherever you want! 

QUESTION: Can you please help me with a question about Zakat? I have 300gm of gold, which is above the nisab, and I can’t pay Zakat at the moment. Can I gift this gold to my children aged 5, 11, and 17? I saw on a website that it’s possible if they have full control over it. Can you explain what “full control” means? Also, do I need to physically give the gold to them, or can I keep it in my locker?
