Please verify some people show some hadith in which Prophet S.A.W asked a man to give the Surah of a Quran in Mehr to his will-be-wife. So many people/girls by this hadith ask their respective spouse to give them 5 Salah, self hand written Quran, demand 1 surah of Quran to hifz etc as Mehr. I want to know all these forms of Mehr Permissible in Islam other than money?

ANSWER: Reciting surah is no mahr. It must be an item given to the wife; cash, car, apartment / house, etc. Only if he doesn’t possess anything at all, not even an extra shirt, then he may teach his wife a portion of the Quran as Mahar.

There is a brother who has asked for my hand in marriage. I am considering to ask him to memorize a surah as part of my mahr or as a condition of marriage. He agreed. Am I allowed to do this? And if so do you have any suggestion of any surah. I’ve read Surah An-Noor, An-Nisa and Al-Maidah are surahs that were adviced to learn by the salaf in different occasions.

ANSWER: Mahr should be paid in money, gold or land, plot or anything material so that if you were to opt for khulu in the future, you can compensate him by returning to him what he had given.

One of my cousin brother is taking dowry (money from the girl father to marry which is haram.i told him and try to convince but not understand.so in this case can i give some money to the girl father for help which the groom is asking and tell them to give this as dowry (dahej).

ANSWER: If her family are unable to afford it and there isn’t any other way to get their daughter married except by giving such money to such half men, yes you can contribute and give them.

I will be getting married soon InshaAllah and I don’t want take anything from bride parents but they are insisting if they give something to girl with happiness it doesn’t comes under dowry please guide what should I do ??

ANSWER: Yes, this does not come under dowry as it’s their right to give gifts to their daughter and whatever they give to her would belong to her and not you so you shouldn’t have any problems in it.

If a man’s parents give gold (as mahr) to his wife on his behalf at the time of marriage and the man later demands and takes back some of that gold from his wife, would it be haraam?

ANSWER: Of course this is haram and he is sinful, as this is the wife’s property and he cannot demand it or take it back without her consent. He is like a dog that vomits and then goes back and eat its vomit.

Suppose during aqd nikah mahr is written as 200000 tk, but with the intention that 70000 is obligatory to pay (as husbands capacity is low) and the remaining are optional for the husband, its totally up to him will he pay it or not? Is this type of condition allowed?

my mehar is 100,000. pakistani rupees which i will give to my wife. only nikaah is done. now i want to know can i give her gold instead this money in cash. and without telling her or is it necessary?

ANSWER: You must give her whatever the agreement was done on, if she agreed on cash, then you must give her cash as it is solely her right.

My Father-in-law told my husband (we only had a nikkah done) that at the time of rukhsati,i should get dowry or i wont be respected because if a girl comes empty handed to the guys house, its like she didn’t have any respect in her parents house,so they married her off with nothing.Also,the family indirectly fill my husband with bad words about me, what do i do?

my question is in our country the bride father gives dowry to her daughter as so called “a gift “but now the groom side has starts saying that don’t give anything we already have you can give cash money instead of any other things. what if a husband passed away without paying Mehr money ? After four years of marriage? Widow can ask from her in laws to pay her from their son deceased property ?
