This is not true. They have no right to force you into marrying someone you don’t want to. Keep an open mind to whatever they are suggesting, but at the end of the day, it’s your life and you have the right to refuse the proposal. Your father also has the right to refuse your choice. 

What if a girl has received two marriage proposals. Her parents want her to go with one while she likes the other. Parents basing their decision on wealth. And then parents shame you that your life in this world and next would be destroyed if you don’t obey your parents. And that only marriages done in accordance with parent’s will have barakah.
