This is baseless and not from Islam.
If they tie it to Islam, this is bidah.

We often see people kissing a pen or something after picking it up when it falls down and sometimes when it touches the feet or the floor or doing what they call “salam” after picking the thing up. This is common in South Asia mostly. What is the ruling on this? Is it Bid’ah?
