Because he was a business man and he trusted Allah to provide him with more! By the way, he did this three times in his life and not only once!

We know that while giving charity, we should leave some wealth for ourselves. Then why did Abu Bakr donate ALL of his wealth (as stated in the famous hadith where Umar donated half of his wealth)?
