The hadith is authentic. Muslims believe what the prophet salla allahu alaihi wa sallam had said. Applying your logic to what the prophet salla allahu alaihi wa sallam had said and contemplating to reject it is like satan when he refused to prostrate to Adam because he believed that he is better than him as he was created from fire and Adam was created from clay.
