If you happen to be in the city, you can visit their graves if you are a man. Traveling for that purpose is totally prohibited. 

 

simillar to saying of prophet Muhammad SAW that a musliim shall not visit a masjid other than 3 masjid with a planned intention. is it okay to visit the graves of Sahaba with a planned intention. noting that the intention is to pray for them not to seek somthing from them.
