Sheikh, is it true that some sunnahs should only be followed if its common in that place to avoid conflict between people? For example, while saying the tashahud its sunnah to move the finger and make dua with it, but I asked the imaam of my mosque and he said since most people don’t do it I shouldn’t do it too because it might distract the person praying beside me. please explain.

If he knows that something is the authentic sunnah then he should follow it even if everyone else is not.
