The title was originally hijack in Islam and this was a misspelling because it was hijacking Islam. So for security reasons we changed the topic to Islam Hijacked.
This goes without saying that the religion of Allah(Azza wa Jal), since the beginning of time, is and always be Islam. All the Prophets and Messengers of Allah were Muslims because the meaning of Islam is to submit your will to your creator(Subhanahu wa ta ‘aala) and that is why, all Prophets and Messengers were Muslims and this is illustrated in the Quran where Allah says “ Truly, the religion with Allah is Islam and whoever seeks a religion other than Islam it will never be accepted of him and in the hereafter he will be one of the losers.”
It goes without saying that our name is Muslims. This is our title and we are proud to announce to the people without affiliating ourselves with a school of thought or with a madhhab or with a sect in Islam. Whenever someone asks us , we say –“ We are Muslims.” Yes,What kind of Muslims? I mean salafi, tableeghi, ikhwaani, deobandi, barelwi, qaadiyani? Any kind of these names? My name is a Muslim. Allah says in the Quran “ There is no one better in verdict than one who calls to Allah ,offers good deeds and says he is amongst the Muslims.”
This name ‘Muslim’ is not something new. It is the name given to us by Allah(Azza wa Jal). We don’t have a choice. This is what Allah has called us. Allah says ,“ It is He who has named you Muslims both before and in this (Quran).” Some interpreters have said that ‘He’ refers to Ibrahim(peace be upon him) and this is not the authentic opinion of the scholars. The scholars say the ‘He’ refers to Allah who has named us Muslims way before and also in this Quran. This is the name ,we should abide by.
Whenever we read in the seerah the best of Ansar were the Khazraj and the Aws and the best of Muslims were the Muhajireen(those who migrated, for the sake of Allah,to Madeenah) and the Ansar(the inhabitants of Madeenah). These are beautiful names and it was an honour to belong to them,no honour beyond that. Yet, Rasoolullah (salla Allahu alahi wa sallam) considered this title as a proclamation of Ignorance. It was reported in Bukhari and Muslim that while 2 servants of the Muhajireen and the Ansar were taking water from the wells, in one of the expeditions ,they fought over it and one of them kicked the other. This created a fight and each one of them called his people. The boy of the muhajireen said “O’ people of the muhajireen , come to my aid” and the boy of the ansar said “O’ people of the ansar come to my aid.” And both the groups wanted to go into a fight. When the Prophet(salla Allahu alahi wa sallam) heard this ,he said “ What is this ? The proclamation of the days of Jaahiliyyah (ignorance)!! Is this what I am hearing ?!”
He just heard ‘O’ people of Muhajireen’ and ‘O’ people of Ansar’ and considered this as a form of Ignorance and Jaahiliyyah. When the people told him what had happened he said “ leave these names because they stink (rot).” In spite of the fact that they were calling each other Muhajireen and Ansar and there is no one better than them. And the Prophet(salla Allahu alahi wa sallam) told us that the nations before us were split into 70+ sects and his Ummah will be divided into 73.
72 of them are in hell and only one will be admitted into paradise by the grace of Allah(Azza wa Jal). When the companions asked,”O Prophet of Allah, which one would that be?” and he said “ the jamaah(the main body of muslims) .”
And in another narration he said, “ Those who follow that which I and my companions follow.”
So this is a serious issue. But we have to clarify that when we say 72 sects in hell we don’t mean that they are not Muslims. Among the 72 sects they are groups who are Muslims and who will be punished in hell and then permitted into paradise when Allah wills it. Allah would forgive them, providing that He wills it and probably because they were doing the best, they could and they made a mistake by choosing that path .However , among the 72 are sects which are not considered to be muslims such as Qadiyanis,Ahmadis,Bahais etc who will be doomed in hell.
The difference between the 72 sects and what we believe to be our sect is not a difference in fiqhi issue( example – whether we put our hand over the chest or belly or not fold it at all, or a woman should cover her face or not)
The issues that will make them go to hell are issues in Aqeedah. They do not have complete evidence from Qur’aan, nor from sunnah.
The main driver for these 72 sects is Shaytaan,Iblees,Satan. He either does this through extravagance(going to extreme) or through negligence/ignorance. He works through infesting our heart with desires (which majority of the Muslims are prisoners of war to the desires) or through casting doubts after doubts. This is how he manages to get the people to be part of the 72 sects.
If we look at the arena today, we will find that Islam has been hijacked, that is, Islam has been claimed by majority of sects which do not relate to Islam. They are distant from Islam. Among them are the people of whims and doubts and innovation. They come to the book and take part of it and leave out what they don’t like. So what they like they highlight and show to others and what they dislike they hide it and claim that you can’t understand the meaning of it. They use the unclear verses of the Quran and they neglect the crystal clear verses of the Quran and Sunnah. (Quran in its physical form is not a good omen, not to seek barakah. It has been revealed to be recited, understood and implemented.) Allah described them for us in the Quran, “ It is We(Subhanahu wa ta ‘aala) who has send down to you (Prophet Muhammad, salla Allahu alahi wa sallam), the book(the Quran). In it are verses that are entirely clear and others not entirely clear,so,as for those in whose hearts, there is a deviation, they follow that which is not entirely clear therefore seeking al fitna and seeking hidden meanings but none knows the hidden meanings except Allah and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge, they say we believe in it ,the whole of it are from Allah, from our Lord ( the clear and the unclear).” So, as Allah said, among us are people with deviation in our hearts.
Islam has also been hijacked by righteous people- people who claim to follow the Quran and Sunnah. It was hijacked by them because they had limited the truth only to themselves so that they are the possessors of the ultimate truth and they use the methodology of the former American president –‘ if you are not with us , you are against us .’ They failed to portray the true Islam and carry the true identity of Islam. They have succeeded in eliminating the people from the loop of Islam and from the circle of the saved group. They were forced to do this, unfortunately. Allah tells us about the saved group “whoever contradicts the messenger (salla Allahu alahi wa sallam) after the right part has been clearly showed to him and follows other than the believers way we shall keep him in the path he has chosen and burn him in hell. What an evil destination!” So this is the path of the saved group. However , I still can’t put my finger on which group is the saved one ,so I can identify if I am from the saved group or not because the truth is that there are lots of groups and all groups, sects ,tariqas claim to be the only group which is saved.
So which one is the saved group? Well, definitely if you look at the Quran and study it you will get your answer. Allah says in the Quran “ Say , shall We tell you the greatest losers with respect to their deeds? Those whose efforts have been wasted in this life while they thought that they were acquiring good by their deeds.” So in order to know if you belong to the saved group or not you have to go back to the basics( the Quran and Sunnah). Don’t be deceived by your own whims and desires and what people tell you. You have to cross reference Quran and Sunnah. Allah Almighty says “ O’ you who believe! Obey Allah ! And obey the Messenger(salla Allahu alahi wa sallam) and those of you Muslims who are in authority and if you differ in anything amongst yourself ,refer it to Allah and his Messenger(salla Allahu alahi wa sallam), if you believe in Allah and the last day.” So, whenever if we dispute among ourselves, the point of reference should be Allah and his Messenger. And by Allah we are referring to the Quran and by his Messenger we refer to the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet (salla Allahu alahi wa sallam).
Another question arises , “ How can I identify that I am on the right track or not?” The scholars says the individual Muslim has to be one of the three :
1. You are either a scholar (scholar is a person who follows the daleel(evidence) from Quran and Sunnah and authentic interpretation of other scholars. He has to have knowledge of the Quran (atleast those verses dealing with ahkaam),knowledge of books of hadeeth and the science of authenticity of hadeeth. He should know the science of usool al fiqh that governs the rules and regulations that allow you to understand what you are reading. He should know the previous opinions of scholars. Above all, he should be knowledgeable in Arabic.
2. Student of knowledge ( ie a scholar in the making-lesser degree of scholar) he looks at opinions of scholars and chooses the one he thinks will be acceptable in the sight of Allah. He does not form his own opinions.
3. The general masses- the ignorant ones who are laymen when it comes to Islamic knowledge. They need to follow a reliable scholar.
Therefore to stop people from hijacking Islam we have to go back to the Quran and the authentic Sunnah. Clear your heart to all your brothers. Always carry the flag of Islam and when someone asks you who you are –say – you are a Muslim!
If they further question you to the school of thought you follow, say –you respect all scholars. The companions did not follow any school of thought. They had differences not only in fiqh but also aqeedah. But their difference was not without following the evidence (for example, they differed on if the Prophet(salla Allahu alahi wa sallam) saw Allah or not , what will be weighed on the scales on the Day of Judgement- the records or the deeds or the bodies themselves, whether woman should pay zakah on gold they have ) , but this did not stop them from being brothers.
Yunus as Safady(may Allah have mercy on his soul) said he debated with As-Shafi’ee and they differed. And the following day As-Shafi’ee came up to me and said “ Isn’t it possible that we differ and still be brothers for the sake of Allah.” Yunus said – I have never seen any one as smart as Shafi’ee.
Therefore I end my talk with a request that we all become brothers for the sake of Allah. So if we differ I accept your opinion as long as it is not in the core of Aqeedah.
