The wives are obliged to work in the house and take care of its chores. They are not obliged to work outside it and if they do, they are not obliged to give their husband anything of their income as this is their own.

They are not allowed to work in a mixed environment.

 

My male friends compel their wives 2 work 4 money cuz its hard 2 live a decent life in west;but they still expect their wives2 do all housework &obey them.I tell them Allah made room 4 for this economicreality by making obedience 2 husband contingent on him maintaining her (4:34)&that Imams Shafii&Hanbali said a wife isn’t even obligated 2 do housework, so the husband should help out.Am I correct?
