It is not permissible to lie as it’s a major sin. 

Muslims usually do not ask other Muslims if they’re fasting or not as it is taken as a normal thing for all Muslims to fast during Ramadan. Simply ask him: what kind of a question is this? Are you Muslim?

I am chronically ill and don’t fast. If someone asks me whether I am fasting, how should I answer? Should I say that I am fasting? Because if I say that I am not fasting, that person will ask me why I am not fasting. I don’t want to expose my illness and tell everybody that I have an illness. How should I behave in those cases?
