I live in Hongkong and the 9th day of Dhul hijjah (Arafah) will be on 21~8~2018 here In sha Allah but on the same date Saudi Arabia will be celebrating Eid. I know Muslims are not allowed to fast on the day of Eid. So whom should I follow saudi Arabia or Hk time table ? I’m confuse how can be the day of arafah be different.

You must follow your local people and observe the day of arafah and eid according to the authorized local Islamic authorities, regardless of Saudi Arabia.

This year 6 days of shawwal should be fasted only after making up the missed days of this Ramadan. The previous Ramadans must be made up but are not connected with this year’s shawwal fasting. One is sinful for fasting 6 of shawwal while still having missed days of previous Ramadans which are mandatory and Fard upon Muslims!

My sister missed 2 consecutive Ramadan plus d current one. Equivalent to 3. she wasn’t able to fast those past 2 Ramadhan becos she’s breastfeeding and now she was pregnant so she can’t take to fast. Does she ned to giv fidya for the missed?

ANSWER: There is no fidya for all these fasts. She has to make for almost all three ramadaans when she is free from all this.

Sheikh I want to know can we buy groceries for some needy family from Fidya money. Or in other words can we buy groceries from fidiya money for the needy person

ANSWER: It must be given as food and not cash!

My sister missed many Ramadan fasting for past few year due to her period,and she didn’t make up for that later, thinking that in this time if we miss salah we dont have to make up.Now she knows that she have to make up the missed fasting, But how she will make up for the previous years fasting?

ANSWER: She must estimate the numbers missed and add a couple more to be on the safe side and make them all up.

I take classes from a reputed Islamic learning centre here. When I asked my female teacher regarding the 6 Shawwal fasts, she says since I definitely intend 2 make up my Ramadan fasts b4 next Ramadan, I can fast the 6 Shawwal fasts without making up my missed Ramadan fasts (due to periods) and then make them up anytime during the yr. Is this kind of fasting allowed?

ANSWER: No. The most correct opinion is that the missed fasts must be made up before keeping the 6 days of Shawwal.

I am fasting shawal and was brushing my teeth. I brushed the back of my and I had a reflex action where I swallowed some toothpaste. I felt that the reflex was coming on so I tried to spit it out quickly but I still swallowed unintentionally the toothpaste because of the reflex. Is my fast still valid?

ANSWER: If you are sure that you swallowed it then your fast is not valid, but if it is just waswas then it is valid.

When a woman make her fast in month of shawwal, she only need one intention for her fard fast (qadha saum of Ramadhan) then she will also get rewards of the six days of shawaal, is this true ?

ANSWER: No. She cannot combine missed fasts of ramadaan with the 6 shawwal fasts.

A person broke his fast several years ago without a valid reason when he wasn’t practicing. Does he have to do anything other making up the fast like feeding the poor?

ANSWER: There’s nothing else to do other than make up that fast, besides repenting sincerely to Allah for this major sin.

I am intending to fast for the 6 days of Shawwal!I want to do these fasts every Friday & Saturday because those are my off days & thus I can include a lot extra worship such as reciting Al-Quraan,Dhikr,nafl prayers etc. at the state of fasting.But I have been told not to fast on Fridays as it considered to be weekly Eid(!!!).Please Advise!

ANSWER: You must not single out Friday or Saturday to fast these days. You can however fast on both Friday and Saturday, together.
