I don’t know of such a story. The book you are referring to is a history book and not a book of hadeeth! Therefore, the possibility of it being filled with baseless lies is always there.

We have this great imam’s heritage and work clearly telling us that this is shirk and that Muslims must not wear threads or amulets.

A Pakistani sufi mentioned in one of his lectures that when Ibn Taimia died people found a thread in his neck and it was auctioned at150 dirhams, quoting from al Bidaya wan nihaya. And I am very much aware that they’re master in twisting of fact so can you explain this in correct perspective.
